MRR praises the new AGRO (..:posted on 28.03.08)
MaximumRockandRoll, the legendary punk fanzine from San Francisco, reviewed the latest Agrotóxico's full-length on their April edition (issue #299). The band is honored to get such a positive review from the world's premiere punk rag. Read the transcription below:

AGROTOXICO - "Libertacao" CD

Their fifth LP since 1993, Libertacao has AGROTOXICO delivering fourteen more tracks of burly, classic Brazilian hardcore, with gruff, throaty vocals spewed over a mid-tempo hardcore charge, shouted choruses, and the non-stop, drum-driven manic energy that marks the style. RATOS DE PORÃO always comes up as a reference point outside Brazil, and while there are similarities, this album is less thrashy, lacks the metallic edge, and is more of a forceful, straight-ahead VARUKERS-styled punk attack. Combine with that a stepped-up level of musical proficiency, intensity, and inventiveness all captured in a great recording — it seems Brazilian hardcore weighs in heavier and heavier on the world stage with great record after great record like this Cameo vocal from members of OLHO SECO, AÇÃO DIRETA, and LOBOTOMIA only make this more unrelenting. Boss! (KS)

AGRO invited to play at Black Jack's farewell (..:posted on 11.11.06)

Most of you might never heard of a venue in Sao Paulo called Black Jack. So, we could sum up the story by saying BJ was kinda the local version of the legendary New York's CBGB.

Black Jack has been a home for local alternative rock bands since 1980 and sadly enough they will be closing down within a month. Just to think that CBGB had the same fate this year...

It's really sad news for the local underground music community.

Agrotóxico played numerous times at Black Jack since the band's inception in 1993. Many other punk and hardcore bands - both from Brazil and abroad - kicked ass at BJ during the years such as Rasta Knast, Agnostic Front, Gee Strings, The Monsters, Cenobites, All You Can Eat, Molotov Cocktail, Ratos de Porão, Lobotomia, Periferia S/A, etc.

On December 16th Black Jack will put out their final bash. Three bands were invited to play the farewell show: Flicts, Threat and AGROTÓXICO.

We'll try to post some photos of this historic event as it happens.

AGROTÓXICO to put out first DVD (..:posted on 11.11.06)

Fuck...it's hard to believe that we didn't post any news on the English version of the website for over a year. What a bunch of lazy bastards we are!

Anyway, we'll try to compensate the lack of info by letting you guys know that we're currently working on our first DVD. A small crew of Film students captured our gig at Black Jack Bar, on September 23rd, on DV-Cam. At the moment, the folks are on the editing bay doing what's possible to make the DVD look as fine as possible.

More news on that soon. Now jump to the next post!

Lotsa news to keep you up-to-date with AGRO (..:posted on 27.07.05)

Long time no posting, eh? Ok, it's been a busy year for Agrotóxico and we hardly had any time to let you know what's going on with the band. First of all, we should tell you that we took part in an American CD compilation titled "To the Bitter End vol 2". This comp was put out by Vinehell Records and you can still grab your copy directly from them. Here's the link: www.vinehell.com.

Besides, we're glad to inform you that for the first time in a 12-year career we have a second guitarist in the band! The axeman in question is Arthur, a guy known for his great work with the punk rock band Flicts. Agro was playing as a trio for over a year and a half and it seemed like having a second guitar player would add extra punch to the band.

Last but not least, we got a live video for download at the "EXTRAS" section of the website. Actually it's a video for the song "Polizei SS" which appeared on the split-CD "Marcas da Revolta". It was captured live by our friend Reverend Denis sometime in 2003 at the Hangar 110 (you'll notice that we still had Renato as a lead singer then). Enjoy!

New MP3 added + discography updated (..:posted on 20.10.04)

We've just added a new MP3 for the song "Insanidade Incondicional" (Unconditional Insanity) to the Records department. Besides, we did update the band's discography by listing the song titles of the brand new split-album "Third World Jihad" plus the participation on the Coléra's tribute CD "Vira-Latas" (Agrotóxico's cover version of Coléra's "São Paulo" is also available in MP3).
Last but not least, we're now informing the size of all the MP3 files so to help the visitors who connect the web via dial-up (now you know which are the smaller files).
By the way, last month we had an impressive number of downloads here at Agro's official website: nothing but 4,000 file tranfers were registered! No need to say you guys are welcome to get the new track ("Insanidade Incondicional") and leave your impressions on the guestbook. STAY PUNK!

News from Europe (..:posted on 14.10.04)
For the most part of the last 3 weeks, Agrotóxico have been unable to contact us. The guys' daily routine consists in getting in the van, arriving in their destiny, unloading the gear, plugging the guitars and making some noise. Obviously, there's always a beer waiting for 'em after the show...
Last week, more precisely on September 24th, Marcos - the guitar player and Agro's founding member - had some time off and, while in a coffee shop, he emailed us the following:

"We're in Bologna, Italy, right now... Last nite's gig was awesome. Actually, most shows have been great, but this one in particular was insane! There was no stage in the venue and the audience went mad... They raised me and Martin from the floor and we kept playing over the crowd! Unbelievable... Our music is getting known around here and people come over to buy all the merchandise even before we start playing. If you guys can update the website, make sure to thank everyone who's coming to our shows in Europe and supporting the tour in a way or another!! We love playing here!"

As the band comes back home, we will get a special Euro tour picture gallery up and running, plus the long-waited Merchandise section, which will include hot items such as t-shirts, patches, stickers, CDs and buttons. Stay tuned!!!

Agrotóxico to play with Rasta Knast in Brazil (..:posted on 02.07.04)

Agrotóxico will be playing tonight in the city of São José dos Campos. This will be a warm-up show for the "Borracharia Maxima Tour" with Germany's Rasta Knast. The Agro boys are going to play a few dates with their German comrades.
First gig will take place on March 12th in Ribeirao Preto or Campinas (yet to be confirmed) and in the following day, both bands will take the stage of Hangar 100, in Sao Paulo.
Agrotóxico and Rasta Knast will then head to Curitiba where they'll blow some more ears at Espaço 92 Graus (March 20th).
Expectations are high for this tour as Agro and Rasta put out a split -album last year and the response was tremendous. A hot site for the "Borracharia Maxima Tour" will be launched soon! We'll keep you posted! Stay punk.

"Estado de Guerra Civil" is out in Germany! (..:posted on 12.22.03)

"Estado de Guerra Civil" is out in Germany by Dirty Faces Records in a deluxe vinyl edition! If you live in Europe and want to get your copy , please send an email to Volker (dirtyfaces@t-online.de).
Read below the album's press release written by the Dirty Faces crew:
"This is pure Hardcore Punk from the megacity Sao Paulo / Brasil.
The first Punkbands were formed in this country under military dictatorship . The most important were Colera, Olho Seco and Ratos De Porao ( who released a few records on Jello Biafras Alternative Tentacles label ) . This early bands were known soon in the International Punk scene for their angry and fast Hardcore sound. Comparble to early Finland or US Bands. In the 90s this bands are still playing and gave the injection for the new wave of Brasil Punkbands that take a stand in todays szene and politics. Early recordings suffered of cheap equipment and no place to record. Nowadays AGROTOXICO recorded in a good studio and make you feel their voice and anger in a great sound . If you like early Hardcorepunk like Discharge, Abrasive Wheels, Partisans, Circle Jerks, Appendix or Riistetyt this is defitliny the right stuff for you ! Includes a cover of ASTA KASKs "Psyskist Instabil". All songs are in portugise language, but you can find a translation of all lyrics in the booklet. Vinyl comes in a deluxe gatefold sleeve, first 500 copies on multicolored vinyl".

First gig with new line-up + police trouble (..:posted on 11.25.03)
Last Sunday Agrotóxico played as a 3-piece for the first time since Renato's departure. The show was held at Espaço 92 Graus in Curitiba (a great city about 500 km away from the band's homeland). Agrotóxico travelled all the way to the south along with long time friends Ação Direta and both bands were supposed to play a big festival in Blumenau (state of Santa Catarina) besides the club date in Curitiba. Unfortunately, the police squad showed up and shut the place down for the sake of God knows what... The pigs were carrying heavy weapons and some pepper spray in case one of the 250 kids did anything as disobbeing their supreme orders...
That was a big turn-off for all the bands involved, especially Agro and Ação Direta since it was the first time for both bands in SC state. Blumenau is a well developed and quiet city which still has this small-town mentality hence the police intervention. We're glad the whole thing didn't turn into a riot.
"Estado de Guerra" gets another nice review (..:posted on 11.18.03)
Over a year since its release, "Estado de Guerra Civil" is still getting very positive reviews from websites, zines and regular magazines. This time it was Contravenção Zine (the "Brazilian MaximumRocknRoll") which published a fine review of the album. This zine has a circulation of 3,000 and is now being distributed in 800 newsstands in the Sao Paulo city. If you want to check out their webpage, here's the link: www.contravencaozine.com.br
New MP3 for Agro Gangsters only! (.:posted on 11.18.03)
Coming soon a new MP3 of Agrotóxico doing a cover version of a classic Cólera song!! This was the last recording of Renato and will probably be included in a tribute record to this legendary Brazilian band. BTW, this file will be available for download only for Agro Gangsters. New interview on Zona Punk (.:posted on 11.18.03)
Agrotóxico and melodic hardcore band White Frogs were interviewed by the popular Brazilian website Zona Punk as both bands completed their 10th year on the punk road in 2003. If youcan read some Portuguese or are curious about the Zona Punk site, please click here.
Renato quits the band (.:posted on 11.10.03)

Agrotóxico's vocalist Renato left the band about 2 weeks ago. After 3 years and a half of hard work, he came to the conclusion that he couldn't keep rehearsing, playing and travelling with the same intensity as the other members. Renato is a tattooist and has his own studio. He takes part in several tattoo conventions and at the moment is terribly busy running his studio.
Needless to say, he's still good friends with the band and still have over 1,000 beers to drink with them. On a brighter note: Agrotóxico was interviewed by Brasilia-based zine Reação Própria. Check out the zine's cover here. If you want to email the zine editor (Ronald), here's his email: brasiliahardcore@bol.com.br

USA release and plans for a new split (.:posted on 10.31.03)
Agrotóxico is in touch with 2 traditional American punk labels which are interested in licensing "Estado de Guerra Civil" to the States. Besides, the band may record new songs for a split-CD with American hardcore band Behind Enemy Lines. More news on this subject as it develops...
Agrotóxico on the road (.:posted on 10.25.03)
Agrotóxico is playing live every single weekend for the last 2 months (which is not an easy task when you're not touring the country and have regular jobs like all of the Agrofreaks). The band played 3 dates with the German punk rock combo The Gee Strings in September, then did a show at the Cerveja Azul club (October 11th) and a sold-out gig at Hangar 110 (October 18th) along with Cólera, Ação Direta and Finnish legends Riistetyt. On October 25th Agrotóxico played a free show with Juventude Maldita, Invasores de Cérebros and others as part of a festival sponsored by Sao Paulo's leftist mayor.
Another Agro special on the web! (.:posted on 10.19.03)

"Guerra Civil" makes it to the "2002's Best" (.:posted on 10.06.03)
The popular indie rock magazine ROCK PRESS voted Agrotóxico's "Estado de Guerra Civil" one of the 2002's best Brazilian CDs!
It was a big suprise for the band since ROCK PRESS focuses mostly on Brit Pop, guitar/garage bands and such. Besides making it to the 2002's Best, the magazine features a 2-page interview with the band. We'll translate it into English soon. Stay tuned.
Agrotóxico on Poison Idead tribute album (.:posted on 09.19.03)
It's out in Europe by Plastic Bomb Records the long-awaited Poison Idea tribute-album "Hangover Hearttack". Agrotóxico recorded a cover version of "Punish Me", which is now incorporated into the band's live set. The album cover was created by none less than legendary artist Pushead!!!
The CD version comes with a 60-page booklet and the vinyl will be out in classic gatefold. Click here to download "Punish Me".
